There are so many ways to do black and white right. Here, a look at 3 creative takes on the age-old (but never dated!) color combo as seen in Nate’s longtime assistant Kelly Engstrom’s Brooklyn home in Rue Magazine.
Black & White Photo, Meet Black & White Wallpaper.
In this case, the wallpaper’s been applied to a folding screen (a brilliant move if you’re looking for a weekend project, or just don’t want to fully commit to a wallpaper.) The graphic combination makes both the art and wallpaper look bold and clean – and you like a genius for pairing them together.
Introduce black accents to a clean white space.
White walls and drapes set an elegant, clean backdrop, but adding simple bursts of black – like the lighting and dining table – add a striking touch.
Get Creative With Grays
Note the subtle, brilliant bursts of gray in this otherwise black and white vignette: Gray accents in the fabric mirror frame (shop the fabric from Nate’s JoAnn’s collection!), as well as in the luxe Carrara marble shelf. It’s a beautiful way to add dimension to an already brilliant black and white moment.
