Nothing to see here, folks, just talking up a truly great designer named Nathan. And I’m not being self-promotional, I’m referring to Nathan Turner. If you know him from “Million Dollar Decorators”, you know he’s hysterical. And if you know him from his work published in ELLE DECOR and House Beautiful, you know that he has great style.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Nathan, and not just because he’s an LA designer that’s half of a design power couple (hi, Eric Hughes!). It’s because Nathan stays true to his style as well as his warm, fun, and charming nature, no matter where he is. He’s one of the best entertainers in any town, and as he’ll attest to below, truly knows his way around the color blue (see also: his new designs at Wallshoppe.)
I’m always proud to find our books on the same coffee table, our rooms on the same Pinterest boards, or in the case of my recent trip to Nashville, the two of us on the same plane.
I hope you’ll enjoy getting to know him a bit as much as I have…

When it comes to decorating “rules”: Is there such a thing and if so, is there one you constantly break?
I have never adhered to decorating “rules.” I truly believe your home should reflect you! And make YOU feel good. So why restrict yourself to someone else’s rule?
What is the most unexpected thing in your home?
Probably the fact that I’m messy like a frat boy. People assume that I’m super tidy… not. True. It drives my boyfriend nuts!

What does your dream house look like and where would it be?
The older I get, the more I want to replicate my childhood. My mother’s family has a cattle ranch in Northern California, and I have so many happy memories from there. My dream home would be an old Spanish-style house in the country with lots of animals and a big garden.
What’s your signature touch in your home or your personal style?
Having started out in the design business with an antique shop, I have a true love of objects. Interesting things that are personal make my spaces unique to me… it should be that way for everyone!
What color/pattern/texture/style are you currently obsessed with?
I love color and have no fear in using it – I’ve never met a blue I didn’t like. And I’m having a lot of fun with wallpaper these days. Especially since I started designing it with Wallshoppe.com. It’s such an easy way to make big statements without a lot of effort.
